A Mindset Shift That Changes Everything:

Seeking True Fulfillment, Embracing Life’s Greater Rewards

There’s something powerful about recognizing a simple truth—when we put in effort to please someone, there’s usually a reward that follows. In the workplace, for example, striving to meet expectations and going the extra mile often leads to recognition, better opportunities, and even promotions.

But what if we applied that same mindset to our ultimate purpose—pleasing Allah (God)?

If we can work hard to satisfy employers or clients, knowing it might lead to success, then how much more should we dedicate ourselves to fulfilling the purpose for which we were created? Obeying Allah’s commands isn’t just about following rules; it’s about striving to please Him, knowing that our efforts will never go unnoticed.

The Promise of Increase

Allah has made it clear in the Quran:

“And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed: ‘If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.’”
(Surah Ibrahim 14:7)

This verse speaks to a reality we already understand—effort leads to reward. Just as hard work at a job brings career growth, striving to please Allah brings divine blessings. But the difference is that worldly rewards are temporary and uncertain, while Allah’s rewards are guaranteed, limitless, and everlasting.

A Shift in Perspective

For many of us, there are moments in life when faith and purpose become clearer. Perhaps it’s after witnessing the results of sincere hard work, or maybe it’s when we experience Allah’s blessings in unexpected ways. When we shift our perspective and begin to see obedience as an opportunity rather than an obligation, everything changes.

Think about how we put in extra hours at work to impress our bosses or how we show dedication in relationships to earn trust and love. The same principle applies to our relationship with Allah. When we sincerely strive to do what pleases Him—praying consistently, showing gratitude, and making choices that align with His guidance—He rewards us in ways we can’t even imagine.

And sometimes, the rewards aren’t just material. They come in the form of peace, contentment, and clarity in life. They come in the form of ease after hardship, strength during challenges, and unexpected doors opening just when we need them.

“And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed: ‘If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.’”
(Surah Ibrahim 14:7)

The Ultimate Success

Success in this world is fleeting. A promotion, a raise, or social recognition can bring happiness, but that happiness fades. The real success—the kind that lasts beyond this life—is in earning Allah’s pleasure.

When we live with this awareness, our daily actions take on a deeper meaning. Every prayer, every act of kindness, every moment of patience—it all adds up to something greater. And the best part? The One we are striving to please is the Most Generous, the Most Merciful.

So as we continue working toward our personal and professional goals, let’s also work toward something far greater. Because when we live to please Allah, the rewards—both in this life and the next—are beyond measure.
